Accessibility Statement
1. Commitment to Accessibility
We are committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people of all abilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards, including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 and 2.2 Level AA, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title III, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the European Accessibility Act (Directive 2019/882).
2. Summary of Implemented Accessibility Measures
To ensure robust accessibility across graphical simulations and complex neural network data, the following features are actively implemented:
- Keyboard Navigation & Control: Every interactive element—including presets, genetic mutation triggers, simulation buttons, display checkboxes, modals, and the simulation viewports—is operable via keyboard without requiring a mouse.
- Manual Keyboard Piloting: Users who cannot use pointer drag gestures can manually pilot the Lunar Lander using standard Arrow keys (
Up,Left,Right) orWASDkeys. - Bypass Skip Link: A high-contrast skip link is positioned at the top of the DOM, enabling screen reader and keyboard users to immediately bypass repetitive header controls and reach the main flight deck.
- Visible Focus Indicators: High-contrast focus rings (
:focus-visible) ensure unambiguous visual feedback when navigating via keyboard. - Accessible Graphics & Fallback Content:
- The HTML5
<canvas>physics simulation has an explicitrole="img", anaria-label, and structured semantic fallback text for screen readers. - The D3.js neural network
<svg>includes accessible<title>and<desc>elements and can be zoomed (+/-/0) and panned via keyboard.
- The HTML5
- Telemetry ARIA Semantics: Live telemetry values utilize appropriate ARIA roles (
progressbarfor fuel, meterfor touchdown radar, andstatuslive regions for thruster lights and flight status). - Color Contrast Compliance: Color palettes across text, buttons, HUD gauges, and status badges meet or exceed WCAG Level AA minimum contrast ratios (4.5:1 for standard text, 3:1 for large text and non-text user interface components).
- Reduced Motion Support: The application honors the operating system
prefers-reduced-motion: reducesetting, disabling pulsing animations and violent screen shakes.

- Modern web browsers: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari on desktop and mobile operating systems.
- Screen reader software: NVDA, JAWS, Windows Narrator, Apple VoiceOver, and Android TalkBack.
- Screen magnification and browser zoom up to 200% without loss of content or function.
- Speech recognition software and switch access devices.
5. Feedback & Accessibility Assistance
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of the NEAT Lunar Lander Playground. If you encounter accessibility barriers, require alternative documentation formats, or have suggestions for improvement, please submit an issue on our public GitHub repository. We aim to respond to feedback promptly.
